Your journey begins in Rethymnon, a lively coastal town in the heart of Crete, where long sandy beaches stretch along the entire town. Here, sun and swimming are always close at hand, with seaside promenades, cafés and tavernas just steps from the beach. At the same time, a charming old town with Venetian history, narrow alleys and a cosy harbour gives the destination its unique character.
Days in Rethymnon are easily filled with swimming, relaxed beach time and spontaneous lunch stops in the shade. In the evenings, the town comes alive with restaurants, bars and a pleasant buzz that makes it easy to feel at home. Rethymnon is the perfect first stop – active yet relaxed, social but never stressful.
Elounda – sun, sea and a slower holiday pace
After five nights, it’s time to change scenery and continue east to Elounda, where sun and beach experiences come with a calmer rhythm. Days here are all about clear waters, peaceful beaches and hotels that truly invite you to slow down and relax. Elounda is known for its beautiful views, tranquil atmosphere and excellent swimming spots, both from beaches and rocky coves.
Here too, the sun and sea take centre stage – but at a pace that suits those who want to unwind, enjoy long beach days and let the evenings remain calm and quiet. The contrast with Rethymnon makes the trip feel like two different holidays in one: first lively and energetic, then serene and restorative.
The journey between Rethymnon and Elounda
The distance between Rethymnon and Elounda is around 200 kilometres, with a driving time of approximately 3.5–4 hours. The route follows the northern part of Crete and offers beautiful views of the coastline, landscapes and small towns along the way. Many travellers choose to make the journey part of the experience, stopping for lunch, coffee or a refreshing swim en route.
Smooth flights – in and out from different airports
To give you more holiday time and less travel time, you fly into Chania at the start of your trip and home from Heraklion after your stay in Elounda. This makes the journey smoother and gives you more time to focus on what really matters – sun, sea and carefree days.
Transfers and car rental – choose what suits you best
When booking your trip with Sembo, you can easily add transfers both from the airports to your hotels and between Rethymnon and Elounda. A smooth option if you want a comfortable journey without having to think about logistics.
